Friends,
This audio clip is from the News Hour With Jim Lehrer. In the clip, two experts explain, quite simply, what the provincial elections in Iraq are intended to do. The compromise, which was supposed to allow the elections to be held, was stopped by the "summer recess". The provincial elections would give more voice to all of the now, under-represented, tribes, lessening the power of the ruling party of the Shia. Therefore the Shia, in order to keep their jobs, made sure that the elections will be postponed by adjourning Parliament. And while the politicians play, either in China watching the games or in Iraq beating the heat, our soldiers die. It is lunacy to think that better security will mean political progress. Our soldiers have done their part, once again, only to see it pissed away into the desert sand. Bring our troops home, now.
Peace and Love,
Rev O
